The Volga route to the East in the "Messages" of don Juan the Persian

The author presents an analysis of the information on the Great Volga route contained in the memoirs of the Persian nobleman who lived in the early 17th century and was known as «Don Juan the Persian». This text is viewed in the context of the attempts of the Europeans to entrench on the Volga route which connects the West with the East. The author comes to the conclusion that the reports of Don Juan should be of a great interest for his contemporaries.
