The armed conflict in Syria and the problem of settlement: political realism of Morgenthau is still relevant

The article deals with the settlement of the armed conflict in Syria. The author reveals the powerlessness of the UN and the large role of several states important in the region, such as the Russian Federation, the United States, Turkey and Iran in overcoming the crisis. The author determines the correctness of the concept of political realism in the analysis of the development of international relations on the Syrian issue. The article proves that the ideas of G. Morgenthau and his followers have not lost their significance in modern realities and that the concepts of national interest and great power are more important for the analysis of international relations than universal moral principles.
