Fauna safety aspects in the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation on the "National goals and strategic objectives for the Russian Federation development until 2024"

The research analyzes the provisions of the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation on the National Goals and Strategic Objectives for the Russian Federation Development until 2024 intended to prevent environmental offenses. According to this Decree, the government is to devise the corresponding national projects of a preventive nature in the field of ecology. The authors note that the Decree under review includes the key ideas about fauna safety enshrined in many contemporary laws and regulations as well as the provisions of the National Security Strategy of the Russian Federation, 2025 Environmental Security Strategy related to the counteraction to environmental crimes. The research considers the approaches of the legislator to regulating fauna and hunting resources protection, the differentiating aspects of criminal liability for illegal hunting (Articles 258, 258.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The study presents the critical analysis of the provisions of the Federal Law No. 157-ФЗ as of June 27, 2018 adopted in order to implement the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 204 as of May 07, 2018 and amended Article 258.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
