D.N. Fedotoff-white's memoirs about the White Army Great Siberian Ice Campaign events

The paper analyzes the events of the regional component of the Civil War in Russia through the prism of historical anthropology and ego-documents. The focus is on the memories of a white emigrant, a former naval officer about the Great Siberian Ice Campaign. In the absence of a sufficient number of official documents and traditional sources about this tragic event, the attention of historians is drawn primarily to sources of personal origin. In this regard, the memoirs of D.N. Fedotov-White provide an opportunity through the eyes of one of its participants to show the retreat of the White Army in late 1919 - early 1920. The most difficult campaign through the Siberian taiga is devoted to separate chapters of memoirs, which were written in English in the late 1930s in the USA. In this regard, it is important to note that D.N. Fedotov-White tried to convey the impressions of those years, and not a retrospective of 1938. He participated in the campaign, first as an officer of the naval regiment, and then at the final stage, during the movement of the Whites from Bratsk prison to Irkutsk, he became its commander. The researcher noted that this unit of the White Army was not sufficiently trained to participate in military operations in the difficult conditions of the Siberian taiga, since officers and soldiers did not have time to undergo special training for fighting on land, which affected the results in the fight against the Reds. In the memoirs of D.N. Fedotov-White, the components of the anthropological approach are especially important - personal perception, emotional coloring, the culture of everyday life of the Siberian village and the participants in the campaign, the detail of the descriptions.
