The purpose of the article is to identify the level of significance of ethnic traditions in various territories of Russia. Definitions are given to the main categories - ethnic culture and ethnic traditions. Various approaches of the authors to the peculiarities of ethnic culture are considered, for example, Yu.V. Gumilev, E.V. Bykov, Yu.V. Bromley and others. The problem of the influence of globalization on the modern ethnic culture of Russia is raised. The peculiarities of the perception of ethnic traditions by residents of the central, southern, northern and eastern macro-regions of Russia are analyzed on the basis of studies by F.A. Ildarkhanova and G.R. Galiullina, L.V. Rozhkova, S.S. Apazheva, A.E. Mestnikova and others. In the central macroregion, empirical studies are considered for Tatarstan and the Penza Region, in the south for Kabardino-Balkaria and the Rostov Region, in the north for the Republic of Sakha and Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and in the east for the Republic of Tyva. The conclusion is made about the preservation of a high level of importance of ethnic traditions in the northern, eastern and part of the southern macroregion, as well as about the decline in the role of ethnic culture in the central part of Russia and part of the southern macroregion. The main reasons for the differences include the ethnic composition of the territories, as well as the different degree of exposure to globalization.
