TFor several centuries Ivanovo has been one of the main textile centers in Russia. The connection of Ivanovo ornamental traditions with oriental ornamentation has deep historical roots. The tradition of exotic images, expressed through the themes and motives of the East, is one of the local features of the ornamentation of modern Ivanovo fabrics. "East" is present in textile ornamentation as a myth about the East and is an element in the construction of one's own cultural identity.
