Introduction: legal regulation affecting the legal status of male persons is a rather unexplored phenomenon, due to the fact that neither in historical retrospect nor in modern legal reality, the legislator is not inclined to distinguish legal regulation depending on the gender aspect. The author of the article draws attention to the fact that in the most ancient periods of the history of the national state and law, the subject of law-making often mixed the rights and duties of a person with the rights and duties of men, primarily because of discrimination against women, eliminating them from the legal field as equal subjects of legal relations. Materials and methods: the material of the study is historical and legal sources that allowed us to sufficiently analyze the legal status of gender groups in Ancient Russia. The methodological basis of the research is the generally accepted methods of scientific cognition of phenomena and social relations in their interrelation and interdependence. The methodological basis is formed by the historical and legal method, as well as the method of induction, which allowed us to identify the problem of the goals and objectives of the impact of Old Russian church and secular law on the legal status of men, as well as other private scientific methods of scientific cognition. The result of the study: the problem of the weak influence of women on the political sphere of society in Ancient Russia is identified, in parallel with the rather high legal capacity of women in the life of the ancient Russian community. Findings and conclusions: the traditional view of the legal status of men in Ancient Russia requires a certain adjustment and significant analysis due to the fact that, having a relatively high legal status in comparison with the status of women, a man was more involved in the political activities of the state due to the special properties of the historical period, which assumed the active conduct of wars.
