In article the questions use of boron steel as neutron absorbing materials for the manufacture of control rods are disscused. Regarded steel grades SB and SBN, which performed up to the boron doping level of 2.0-2.2% (by weight). This high boron content influences on initial properties of steel, and the properties and microstructure evolution under irradiation. The examples of the operation of boron steel in different temperature and neutron-physical conditions, especially the accumulation and redistribution of transmutation helium questions dimensional stability change plasticity, strength, etc.
