Possibilities of use of lasers in criminalistics

Article contains suggestions for improvement of practice of use of lasers in criminalistics. A number of examples of their known application is given in fight against crime. Systematization of use of the laser equipment in problems of criminalistics is carried out, features of laser radiation which are crucial for their application in disclosure and investigation of crimes are marked out: monochromaticity, high density of energy of radiation, coherence and orientation of radiation. Examples of use of lasers in criminalistics on decisive features of laser radiation are given. It is shown that an important task in criminalistics, namely, in judicial ballistics is definition of the direction and distance of a direct bullet shot by means of modeling of a trajectory of the flight of a bullet on the scene connected with criminal use of firearms in the conditions of not evidence. Authors developed the laser device allowing to increase the accuracy and convenience of the solution of the matter during production of inspection of the scene, judicial and ballistic examination and (or) an investigative experiment. The device for definition of the direction of a direct bullet shot consists of the directing tube supplied with a conical insert on which the focusing system connected by means of the light guide to a source of laser radiation is fixed at the same time an optical axis of the focusing system is coaxial with the directing tube. On the directing tube the photointake connected to the measuring block is also fixed. The device which allows to define the direction of a shot is developed for further expansion of functionality of the above described device and to estimate distance to the alleged location shooting under various weather conditions. For this purpose it is equipped with the block of the photodetectors having the maximum sensitivity on lengths of waves of the used sources of pulse laser radiation with various lengths of waves of radiation fixed on the directing tube. Laser and the photodetector corresponding to weather conditions are connected by means of the optical switchboard and the multiplexer via the control unit and measurements.
