The origin and development of wooden toys: cultural studies approach

The study deals with the cultural and historical aspect of a folk crafts art. The author discusses the evolution of wooden toys of two Russian regions, in particular, the little-known Savinskaya toys of Ivanovo region. Based on the analysis of archival records and memories of Savinskaya craftsmen, the paper considers the value of Savinskaya toys as a cultural phenomenon. The features of the wooden toys craft are also described.
