Resumption of the death penalty: pros and cons

The article examines the current aspects of the resumption of the death penalty in the Russian Federation, as well as the pros and cons of this type of punishment. The main focus is on the legal, humanitarian and social aspects of the problem, the risks of judicial errors and the possibilities of alternative forms of punishment. The article provides examples of foreign experience (USA, China, European countries), and examines Russia’s international obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights. The authors conclude that in the context of the global trend towards the abolition of the death penalty, Russia will likely continue to adhere to the moratorium, focusing on the principles of humanism and respect for human rights.
