Age of sandstones of the Proskurinsky strata (Northern Urals) according to U-Pb dating of detrital zircons

The first results of U-Pb dating of detrital zircons from volcanocomictic sandstones of clastic strata distributed in the contours of the proposed basaltoid volcanic pipe in the upper reaches of the Pechora river are presented. It is established that the composition of the sandstones formed during epicontinental riftogenesis, is dominated by slightly altered, under cold climate conditions, products of destruction of volcanic rocks, mainly of the basic composition, associated with magmatic activity close to or simultaneous with sedimentation. On the basis of the geochemical features and age characteristics of the zircon grains contained in the sandstones, we concluded that the sand-aleurite Proskurinsky strata belongs to the Lower Ordovician Telpos suite. We suggested that the sources of clastic material and sedimentation conditions in various spatially remote sections of the basement of the Paleozoic section of the Northern Urals were similar.
