The article considers the dynamics of the theme of time in Virginia Woolf's novels, belonging to different periods of the writer's oeuvre, and analyses the combination of the so-called "Outer Time" and "Inner Time" in her poetics. Special attention is given to the literary world of Virginia Woolf's later novels "The Years" and "The Waves" as least studied in Russian Anglistics. "The Waves" can be considered as the most successful in terms of realisation of the writer's understanding of the relationship between "Outer Time" and "Inner Time". In "The Years" Woolf realised her concept of time almost in the framework of the traditional novel.
