Currently, acute urinary retention is one of the most common causes of hospitalization of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Patients usually undergo a number of standard procedures for urine derivation during their preoperative treatment. To assess the results of elimination of acute urinary retention, we analyzed 280 patients admitted to the Department of Urology of Samara City Clinical Hospital No. 8 between 2012 and 2015. Of them, 164 patients underwent bladder catheterization; 59 patients had epicystostomy; 57 patients had troacar epicystostomy. Retrospective pseudo-multivariate analysis allows the evaluation of the impact of bladder drainage on the treatment outcomes in BPH patients with acute urinary retention. The results can be used for the development of a mathematical model for predicting the outcome of measures aimed to eliminate acute urinary retention in BPH patients. Using the results obtained, we have developed the recommendations on bladder drainage methods in preoperative treatment of BPH patients.
