Selection of a bride in the wedding ceremony of the Avars: traditions and innovations

The article deals with the selection of a bride in the context of the wedding ritual, identifying the correlation of traditional and new features. The wedding ceremony of Avars has undergone certain transformations associated with changes in the social structure, urbanization and globalization processes. These transformations have been especially noticeable since the late 1980-s, becoming a snowballing process in the 1990-s and beyond.
