The paradox of the situation is that each subsequent technology, which is more eective, devalues the previous one. However, when it comes to the cultural component of society, this position sometimes does not work. This probably happens precisely because of the support of the idea, which is the basis of the technology, where there are clearly structured algorithms of actions that are interpreted as a cultural code. Today there is an actualization of myths about life in the USSR. The image of the Soviet Union, which itself has become a myth, is quite dicult to give an objective assessment. The reasons that became a possible reason for exaggerating the attractiveness of the image of the USSR will not be considered. The article examines images that were codes for Soviet society. The political, economic, social, and technological components in various codes are considered in the artistic context of Sergei Dovlatov’s work “Compromise,” namely “The Eighth Compromise,” where the main cultural codes of the USSR are most vividly and fully presented in artistic language. The methodological basis for understanding the code is the approaches of K. Rapaya, A. Auzan, Y. Lotman, M. Epstein.
