The research presents the development practices of sociological methods for identifying the main risk-taking processes in the context of human security. Security is a complex, multifaceted and multidimensional socially determined phenomenon. The risks of personal, social and state development are an element of social changes in the modern world. Thus, most social processes have a risk-based potential, i.e. they are risky processes. Human security is to protect values, social and cultural patterns of social relations providing the favorable environment for society functioning as a whole and is a basic component of national security. For Russia, the North Caucasus is one of the most risk-generating regions. Understanding the nature and scope of events taking place in this region makes it possible to identify the common patterns of risk-taking processes, learn from experience and determine the most effective methods for their study and neutralization. The paper describes the main stages of identifying risk-taking processes in the social sphere; presents the results of applying the sociological methods to reveal social risk-taking processes in the North Caucasus.
