Exhibitions of the Russian southern Far East agricultural societies as a form of agricultural knowledge popularization (late XIX - early XX centuries)

The purpose of research is to study the exhibition activities of agricultural societies in the south of the Russian Far East in the late XIX - early XX centuries. The activities of agricultural societies were aimed at providing direct agronomic assistance to the agricultural population of the region, and exhibitions became one of the ways to provide assistance. Research objectives: to analyze the main trends in exhibition activities; to identify their spatial and temporal localization; to reveal the significance of the exhibition activities of societies for the popularization of agricultural knowledge. The paper examines the situation of the main branches of agriculture in the region in the late XIX - early XX centuries. It is concluded that the factor that forced the government to stimulate the growth of agricultural societies was the general underdevelopment of agricultural sectors in the south of the Far East, or their incorrect formulation. Based on a wide range of sources, the author analyzes the goals of the exhibitions, their specifics, and their location. The significance of the exhibitions held for the population of the south of the Russian Far East in the specified period of time is revealed.
