Mutual trade relations of the Central Asian states at the present stage

This article examines the indicators of foreign trade relations between the post-Soviet Central Asian states – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan – for the period 2019–2023. It focuses on the dynamics of mutual trade turnover between the countries of the region and the share of mutual trade in the gross foreign trade turnover of the region as a whole and each country individually. The geographic structure of mutual trade between the Central Asian states is analyzed, and its key components are identified. The characteristics of the commodity structure of the main intercountry trade flows in the region are highlighted. There are drawn the conclusions regarding the reasons for the relatively small volumes of mutual trade in the region and the factors determining the future prospects for the development of mutual trade relations between the Central Asian states.
