The interaction of the police and the gendarmerie in the Russian empire (1826-1917)

The article considers a rather large historical period from the creation of the III branch of His Imperial Majesty's Own Chancellery and the executive body of this department - the Corps of gendarmes until the disbandment of the tsarist law-enforcement agencies by the Provisional Government in 1917. The article considers the establishment of security offices in major industrial cities of the country in connection with the growth of the revolutionary movement; measures of the government aimed at reforming and improving the work of police and gendarmes, as well as their interaction to ensure the internal security of the state.
