The work reveals the church-state relations in the USSR from 1958 to 1991, highlights the issue of the creation and functioning of the state institution - the Council for the ROC; activities of the Commissioner for the ROC; the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in social service in the Ryazan diocese; the martyrdom of the archpastors in atheistic times, the believers' feeling transformation, regardless of the political situation. Aspects of cooperation between the church and the state on the use of temple structures are disclosed. The consecration of Archpriest Boris Skvortsov to the rank of archimandrite and bishop of Ryazan and Kasimovsky is shown. There are mentioned the consequences of the tax reform legislation towards church property, as well as parish churches and monasteries and the reform of the parish administrative structure in the 1960s, which caused a decrease in the number of rural churches and the appeal of communities to the Council on Religious Affairs. The tendencies to the establishment of an agreement - concordat between the government of the USSR and the Russian Orthodox Church during the years of perestroika are noted. The author concludes the state interest of the use of the Russian Orthodox Church in the period under review.
