Views of Lion Isaevich Sheinis on criminology, crime, its causes and measures to counteract it: a historical and criminological study

The aim is to expand the understanding of the origins of criminological education in Russia through the activities of one of the first teachers of criminology - Lev Isayevich Sheinis. Methods of research : the historical method was used as the main method of research, with the help of which the assessment of criminological education and the content of criminology in the early XX century was given through analyzing the literary works of L. I. Sheinis. Results : it was established that as an independent direction of humanitarian education criminological training of Russian students by Russian teachers took place in the Russian Higher School of Social Sciences in Paris, including Professor L. I. Sheinis. It was inferior to the modern one in terms of its content and scope. It was carried out by teachers who had high professional qualifications. Criminological training was an integral part of humanitarian education. Scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time in criminological science the emergence of Russian criminological education in the early twentieth century, and not in the 60s of the twentieth century, as previously claimed. Among one of the first criminologist-educators it is worth mentioning L. I. Sheinis, Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Law and Doctor of Economics, Professor of the Russian Higher School of Social Sciences in Paris. Practical significance lies in the revision of certain provisions of criminological doctrine related to the emergence of criminological education in Russia, as well as the return to the history of criminological teaching of undeserved forgotten criminologist L. I. Sheinis, as well as his scientific and educational works published in Russian periodicals.
