XV International scientific conference “Onomastics of the Volga region” (“onomastika Povolzhia”)

The XVth International scientific conference “Onomastics of the Volga region” (“Onomastika Povolzhia”) is devoted to the study of the onymic sphere of the Russian regional worldview, the onomastics of the Volga region, the vast area of the European part of Russia which is traditionally considered to be the territory of ethnic contacts. It was first held in 1967 in Ulyanovsk, and it was organized by the very famous Soviet onomatologist V. A. Nikonov. This conference is one of the effective forms of introducing the results of the regional onym studies to the scientific community. It is a well-known and internationally acknowledged traditional scientific event. More than one hundred and forty scholars from different cities of Russia and some foreign countries took part in the conference.
