The review presents results of epidemiological study of female breast cancer incidence in Irkutsk region during the period 1993–2007. Out of the total cancer cases registered in Irkutsk region during this period, breast cancer remained the most common malignancy (20,1 %). The age-standardized incidence rate per 100000 was 48,7 ± 3,3. The breast cancer incidence rate showed an increasing tendency with the overall rise being 66,2 %. The most important risk factors for developing breast cancer are: age over 50 years, irregular menstrual cycle, late menopause, breast traumas, concomitant hypertension, heredity, smoking of more than a pack of cigarettes per day and low family income.
