To the issue of the death penalty in the Transcaucasus after joining the Russian empire: a historical and legal analysis

Introduction: The author’s intention is aimed at researching the institute of the estimated penalty in Transcaucasia after joining the Russian State. A brief historical excursion is held, official documents concerning the death penalty are explicated and analyzed. Special attention is paid to legal acts regulating legal relations related to the establishment of an exceptional measure of punishment, as well as to documents revealing the ideological basis for the application of this measure of state coercion. Historical and legal facts are given on the application in the study region of the general principles of sentencing that exist in the Russian Empire, as well as on the narrowing of the scope of the death penalty. Materials and methods: The regulatory framework of the study was constituted by the regulatory legal acts of the Russian Empire.
