Employment of senior citizens (case study of volunteerism)

The article analyzes the problem concerning the employment of people senior the working age. At present the increase in share of senior citizens in the society is characteristic for all developed countries. According to the data of government statistics, in the Russian Federation the share of senior citizens in the population of the country comprises 23% (33 mln people). The article shows the opportunity of involving senior citizens in the social life of the territory using the volunteerism as an example. The author reveals that the attitude to this category of citizens in the countries having the developed form of such employment considerably differs from the Russian practice. Participationof senior Russians in the volunteerism is complicated by the existing culture-historical stereotypes, orientation of the social policy, underestimation of the volunteerism and necessity of senior citizens to take part in it. In the meantime, there are several examples of successful involvement of senior citizens in the volunteerism in Russia, which gives evidence of the change in vector of public moods towards this category of population.
