Western Jin dignitary Jiang Tong (? - 310 ad) and his work «Discourses on the resettlement of barbarians-rongs»

The article examines Jiang Tong, a Jin dignitary of the common people and his work «Xi Rong Lun» in the political context of the Western Jin Empire (265-317). The work explores little-studied aspects of Jiang Tong's life and the historical and political processes of the Western Jin era. The study also draws attention to Jiang Tong's rise up the social hierarchy, demonstrating the serviceability of social lift mechanisms for Confucian-educated commoners. «Xi rong lun» was published during the reign of Empress Jia Nanfeng, against the Di tribal rebellion (296-299 AD) and the 15-year civil war involving eight lords (291-316 AD).
