Switch banning of RAS circuit breaker in the ring network

In order to improve power supply reliability of consumers, switches in rural power transmission lines are equipped with devices of reserve automatic switch (RAS). Damages occurring when such switches are unsuccessfully connected to a stable short-circuit can be avoided by introducing in such cases a ban to switch on devices of reserve automatic switch. A new method of banning is based on remote control of the operation of the switches, which is performed by comparing the duration of the short-circuit current flow with the duration of the protection operation of the sectionalizing switch of the ring network transmission line. For this purpose the short-circuit current is monitored at the beginning of the line, and from the moment of its flowing the time is counted down which is set equal to the protection operation time of the sectionalizing switch located in the main power supply line. Further, the appearance of a second short-circuit current surge is monitored after a time equal to the dead time of the automatic reclosing of this switch. From the moment of its appearance, the time equal to the protection operation time of the sectionalizing switch is counted. Further, in case of the disappearance of the second short-circuit current surge, it is established that there is a stable short circuit in the line, and then a ban to switch on the reserve automatic switch is signaled, avoiding the occurrence of damage from electricity under-supply of consumers normally feeding from the backup transformer. Thus, by means of switch operation remote control by comparing the duration of the short-circuit current flow with the duration of the protection operation of the sectionalizing switch of the ring network transmission line, the method makes it possible to ban switching on a stable short-circuit of the reserve automatic switch in lines with sectionalizing points equipped with devices of a single automatic restart of the switches. And the introduction of the algorithm for method realization will increase the efficiency of the functioning of power supply systems and the reliability of consumers' power supply by eliminating the operation of the automatic switch of the reserve automatic switch for stable short circuits.
