The emergence of the Abkhazian intelligentsia in the early XIX century

The paper analyzes the conditions of the emergence and formation of the Abkhazian intelligentsia. It is shown that political, economic, social and spiritual factors of the development of the Abkhazian society in the XIX century were a necessary condition for the development of the intelligentsia. Initially, the Abkhaz intelligentsia was noble. Abkhazians, who came from noble families who went to study outside Abkhazia, were involved in the processes of intercultural interaction. The main feature of the formation of the Abkhaz intelligentsia was the growing public influence on the Abkhaz society. Its first representatives in the field of history and education were Nikolai Shakryl and Solomon Zvanba.
