The problems of foreign regional studies are of multi-level relevance. On the one hand, a complex theoretical problem is the challenge to understand the content of an interdisciplinary task: to identify the subject and methods of modern foreign regional studies. On the other hand, the demand of the Russian state for qualified regional specialists is obvious. The economic and political situation in the world and in the Baltic region implies increased attention both to our partners and to our opponents. Events in the Baltic States show us that our knowledge of our closest neighbors is insufficient. In the St. Petersburg State University of Economics the training of specialists in the field offoreign regional studies is carried out from the standpoint of maximum complexity. However, the specialization of the university implies that the main development strategy of the educational profile is economics that assumes certain specificity in teaching and a corresponding emphasis in the subsequent professional activity of graduates. And it follows that the task of the teachers is the theoretical and methodological support of this scientific area.
