Protection of military and state secrets in Glavlit's activities in 1944

The article analyzes the problem of protecting military and state secrets in 1944 during the liberation of the occupied territories of the USSR and the European countries. The purpose and tasks of the article are the identification and description of the structure and contents of the classified information; the analysis of the activities held by the state, party bodies and the Main Directorate for Literary and Publishing Affairs (Glavlit) for the protection of state secrets during that period. In the course of the study, organizational measures and fields of information security activity and their specifics are characterized. The conclusions drawn in the article confirm the facts of carrying out a certain censorship policy on the protection of state secrets in general by the state (represented by Glavlit) in interrelation with the course of fighting and political events, as well as their influence on the structure and contents of the classified information. The amount of the state and military information prevented from disclosure points to the necessity of censorship carried out by the state and Glavlit.
