Zemstvo and public education in the Urals (1900-1918)

This article reveals the main trends in the activities of the Urals Zemstvo in the development of public education. Zemstvos streghthened the material-technique base of school and vocational schools, give grants (scholarships) to poor student, organized teachers congresses and additional educational courses for teachers. Thank to Zemstvos education became availiable for people of all classes. It transformed into branched system and helped to prepare well educated specialists.
