The microstructure and microhardness of boride layers are investigated and compared to layer properties obtained at borating by thermo-chemical treatment of sating daub and electron beam boriding in vacuum. The formed surface layers have heterogeneous structure combining solid and weak components and resulting in fragility reduction of boride layer.
