Research analyzes the quality of housing in the Central, Zheleznodorozhny, Oktyabrsky, Sovetsky, Sverdlovsky, Leninsky and Kirovsky Districts of the city of Krasnoyarsk based on the materials of the 1989 census from the funds of the state archive of the Krasnoyarsk Region. The assessment criteria were the size of the average living space per inhabitant as a whole and for individual types of housing; distribution of the population of districts by different types of residential premises, such as an individual house, part of an individual house, a separate apartment, a communal apartment and a dormitory accommodation. The paper examines the availability of various communal benefits to residents of the city, as well as the distribution of dwellings according to the material of the outer walls and the form of ownership of the dwelling. As a result, it should be noted that most of the population of Krasnoyarsk was provided with housing of sufficient quality, corresponding to the ideas of the industrial era. From the standpoint of assessing the living conditions of Krasnoyarsk residents, the city was divided into old and new factory districts. Since it is the new factory Districts (Sovetsky, Leninsky, Kirovsky and to some extent Sverdlovsky and Oktyabrsky) at the end of the 80s. enjoyed a much higher level of comfort, due to the fact that there was less concentration of the private sector. Its largest share belonged to the Central and Zheleznodorozhny Districts, represented by old wooden houses that did not have access to basic communal benefits such as central heating, sewerage, water supply, etc., and therefore the average level of housing comfort there was lower than in factory areas, as of 1989.
