The study highlighted the housing problem faced by Soviet students in the 1920s based on their letters to the authorities. The research noted that people suffered an acute housing crisis in the first decade of Soviet power. The floor area per person was less than 10 square meters, and accommodations failed to meet the minimum health requirements. Severe housing shortage affected students as well since the number of students doubled in the first decade of Soviet power compared to the pre-revolutionary period. The study identified that students complained about the high cost of rented accommodation, housing shortage, and conflicts with neighbors and relatives in municipal households in their statements and letters to the authorities.
