The authors study the dependence of human fate on one's upbringing. The material of the socio-pedagogical analysis is the autobiographic novel “School Waltz or the Energy of Shame” by Fasil Iskander, a classic of Abkhazian and Russian literature. The socio-pedagogical analysis of the character's life was performed using the needs information (motivational) approach to upbringing, offered by a famous Russian psychophysiologist, academician P. V. Simonov, as well as the material of the Sh. K. Tsargush's doctorate thesis, containing the analysis of the history of the development of Abkhazian national pedagogy with regard to “apsuar” (spiritual heritage of the Abkhazian people) and the abovementioned upbringing theory. The socio-pedagogical analysis of the novel character's childhood showed that for the Abkhazians (as mountain-dwellers) the motivation of preserving and enriching family honor is the strongest incentive. And in the cases of shameful (let alone dishonorable) behavior of a family member, the future generations of the family inevitably face the task of restoration of honor, of achievement of deserved honors, and in a broader sense - of preservation and enrichment of national traditions. This is the first (of the declared five) paper on F. Iskander's “living” pedagogy.
