The personality of Patriarch Tikhon was not given due attention in Soviet historiography. After his canonization in 1989 at the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church, interest in the personality and pastoral ministry of St. Tikhon increased sharply, and this gap was filled. Today there are dozens of historical studies devoted to different periods of his life and various aspects of pastoral, hierarchical and other activities. Such an abundance of historical material requires analysis and systematization, the beginning of which can be laid by a detailed historiographic survey. This article is devoted to the historiography of the pre-revolutionary period of the life and work of the holy Patriarch; a special place in it is devoted to the study of the church and missionary activities of the saint during his time as bishop of Alaska and the Aleutian Islands in North America in 1898-1907.
