Life and culture of Scottish clans

The article deals with the traditions and customs of the Scottish clan system. The author defines the content of the “clan" concept, considers the transfer of the supreme power in the clan. The main factors of clan names formation, the duties of the clan chiefs are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the detailed description of the national clothes, in particular, the kilt as traditional clothes of the clans. The paper describes features of the Highland Games, presents the history of the momentous Scottish holidays: Tartan Day and Scottish Independence Day.
