In the history of the Russian Orthodox Church in the 20th century, there were many personalities whose activities have had a great influence on the modern era. Among the authoritative church figures of this period, the now little-known personality of Metropolitan Palladius (Sherstennikov) stands out. The study of his life path is of particular interest. Vladyka Palladius was born into a family of a priest, received a higher theological education, took an active part in the fight against Renovationism, and served time at Kolyma on charges of anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda. Metropolitan Palladus had extensive experience in archpastoral ministry. He held appointments to the Yelabuga, Rzhev, Olonets and Petrozavodsk, Kalinin and Velikie Luki, Semipalatinsk and Pavlodar, Omsk and Tyumen, Irkutsk and Chita, Saratov and Volsk, and Orel and Bryansk Dioceses. Overseeing the dioceses in difficult conditions for church life, Vladyka Palladius did much to preserve and strengthen the Russian Orthodox Church in the 20th century. The article uses new information about Metropolitan Palladius, based on an analysis of archival materials, periodicals, and the works of Russian researchers.
