"Novy mir" magazine: the readers and the authority

The article considers relations of the editorial staff and readers of the ‘Novy Mir’ magazine with the Soviet authority in the middle 1960-s. With publication of the article “Legends and facts" by V. Kardin the magazine casted doubt on some myths of the Soviet history, specifically, heroic deed of the Panfilov Division's Twenty-Eight Guardsmen, a blank shot from the cruiser Aurora’s forecastle gun as a signal of the start of the assault on the Winter Palace, etc. The readers’ letters to the ‘Novy Mir’ magazine reflected the complicated process of reexamination of the Soviet myths by the society.
