The article provides an overview of periodicals of art that influenced the development of creative thought of artists of the 20th century, the emergence of new styles and techniques in painting. The journals contributed to the development of the museum business in Russia, documented the movement of cultural values within the country and abroad, described the collections of large collectors, the development of the museum network and the formation of museological thought.
