Prosecutor's decision to drop charges: significance of the institution for the establishment of objective truth during criminal process

The paper examines the prosecutor's role in the establishment of the truth in a criminal trial and in accomplishment of the purpose of criminal proceedings, also highlighting the specifics of his status as a public prosecutor. The author disucsses the context, in which actvities of the opposing parties - prosecution and defence - contribute to the lawful, fair, and justified verdict, and, thus, implementation of the Article 6 of the RF Code of Criminal Procedure. The analysis reveals the interconnection between protection of the rights of an accused (a defendant) through prosecutor's decision to drop charges and the possibility of truth establishment in a criminal case.
