The role of print media in formation of maritime culture of the Kola North

The article studies historical evolution and current state of the print media covering the maritime activities of the Kola North. The maritime culture is considered as a system model of self-organization forms implemented by the social groups developing the sea space. On the basis of the analysis of works of M. McLuhan, M. Castells, P. Bourdieu, N.B. Kirillova, O.N. Astafyeva, and the empirical research carried out as a part of the research project "The cultural industries of the modern Kola region: state, ways of updating and practice", it is concluded that the regional print editions (newspapers and magazines) covering the maritime activities represent unique information and communicative forms of maritime culture as historically changing forms of transition and reception of information about maritime activities.
