The article considers the process of adaptation of the population to market conditions on the example of Ulyanovsk region. The author underlines the factors influencing this process, such as psychological peculiarities of the population, economic tactics of the regional authorities, and low level of small business in the region. The author concludes that a significant part of the population has a low level of adaptability to new economic conditions.
