The purpose of investigation - to study the adaptive capacity of smokers and non-smokers with bronchial asthma (BA). 60 patients with asthma (mild and moderate), aged from 27 to 68 years (32 women and 28 men) were examined. The control group consisted of 100 smokers: 57 women and 43 men aged 27 to 70 years. They did not have the acute illnesses and did not receive treatment for chronic diseases, had no respiratory symptoms. The study included: determination of the degree of nicotine dependence (Fagerstrom test), motivation to quit smoking, motivation for smoking (Horn questionnaire), medical and social factors, adaptive capacity (questionnaire "Adaptability"). Statistical processing was carried out using the program SPSS 11.0. Patients with asthma smoked 17.7 cigarettes per day, a high degree of nicotine dependence was determined in 35% of cases. Smokers with asthma compared with nonsmokers patients had lower levels of behavioral regulation and personal adaptation potential. It is indicating a lower adaptive capabilities of smoking patients. Correlation was found between personal adaptive capacity and duration of smoking, number of cigarettes smoked per day in patients with bronchial asthma. This shows the negative impact of the intensity of smoking on the adaptation resources of these patients, and it is an additional argument in smoking cessation and treatment of tobacco dependence.
