The administrative and managerial activity of the first secretary of the Bashkir regional committee of the CPSU S.D. Ignatyev: achievements and miscalculations of the “socialist management” on the periphery in 1953-1957

This article examines the party economic activity of one of the Khrushchev’s regional appointees S.D. Ignatyev, who was the head of the Bashkir Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1953-1957. The study presents the practices of the regional party functionary in the first years of the Khrushchev Thaw. It means the implementation of initiatives of a voluntary nature that were launched by the head of the USSR N.S. Khrushchev. The phenomenon of “ostentation” is noted. It was used to demonstrate the “progressive” growth of the economic life of the BASSR. Being the first secretary of the Bashkir Regional Committee of the CPSU, S.D. Ignatyev is described as a dodgy party economic functionary, who adapted to new political realities in the USSR in proper time. The paper is written on the basis of published sources and researches of foreign and Russian scientists.
