The article examines the main aspects of the African direction of the Great Geographical Discoveries, studies the causes, main events and consequences of these phenomena in Medieval history. Much attention was paid to trade and economic relations between the European and African continents. Logically chronic events of the main stages of the Portuguese exploration of Africa are presented. Considerable attention is also paid to historical figures and personalities of the Great Territories of Discovery.
