Intertext as a means of agonistic strategy formation in political discourse of the USA

The article focuses on the analysis of intertextual entities which are involved in strategy formation in the communication of American politicians. Quotations representing different types of passages are regarded as discursive realisation of four agonistic tactics pertaining to different degrees of verbal aggression, varying from discredit to threat. The article studies how intertexts contribute to overcoming in argument while constructing a required image of political opponent or enemy.
