Active longevity as a problem of the present-day youth

According to contemporary demographers, the general character of population ageing depends on the levels of economic and socio-political development and is essentially a progressive process characterizing a society with high living standards and confidence in the future. On the basis of the theoretical works by outstanding Polish demographer E.Rosset, the article analyses a series of indicators and important factors affecting formation of health and having a decisive significance for length of life. The need for limiting the unhealthy habits extension, and importance of the awareness about healthy nutrition and physical activity were substantiated by the WHO strategies. The author analysed the life expectancy rates in Russia and stressed that they are lagging behind those in developed countries, particularly for male cohorts. The gap reaches 20 years. Demographic studies point to the growing crisis connected with poor health of the Russian population, and the greatest anxiety concerns the younger generation. The article indicates the directions that could further active longevity of the present-day Russian youth.
