Spend a concise analysis of the formation and development of small and medium-sized enterprises, since the era of primitive accumulation of capital, free competition, monopoly and state-monopoly capitalism era. It is proved that under the conditions of the cyclical crises of the economies of various countries, SMEs are the panacea for the efficient and rapid release of these updates via mobile fixed and working capital. In the modern period of development of the economy viability and effectiveness of the functioning of small and medium-sized businesses it is determined by not only the state of the fixed and current assets, but also an effective anti-trust legislation aimed at maintaining competition and restriction of monopolistic cartels in the markets.
